Last updated: May 7, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the mobile application Lucernia ("Lucernia" or the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using Lucernia, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. The Publisher

Lucernia is published by Alexandre Grisey, sole proprietor (entreprise individuelle) registered in France under SIREN/SIRET 83978643100024, with registered address at 7 Allées de Chartres, 33000 Bordeaux, France (the "Publisher", "we", "us", or "our").

2. The service

Lucernia is a Bible study companion that lets you:

The App requires an active internet connection to perform verse lookups and to generate AI context, because both verse retrieval and AI generation happen on the Publisher's backend.

3. Eligibility and account

You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use Lucernia. If you are under the legal age of majority where you live, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Lucernia does not require you to create an account to access its core features. Subscription entitlements are tied to your Apple ID or Google account through the relevant app store.

4. License to use the App

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, the Publisher grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download and use the App on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use.

You agree not to:

5. Subscriptions and in-app purchases

5.1 Free tier

Lucernia offers a free tier with daily limits on verse analysis, AI questions, notes, and history. Premium features are available through paid subscriptions.

5.2 Premium subscriptions

Lucernia offers paid subscription plans (such as weekly and yearly) that unlock unlimited verse analysis, unlimited AI questions, unlimited notes, and unlimited history. The exact pricing, duration, and renewal terms are displayed in the App at the time of purchase, in your local currency.

5.3 Billing, renewal, and cancellation

5.4 Right of withdrawal (EU consumers)

In accordance with Article L.221-28 of the French Consumer Code (and equivalent EU law), by purchasing a digital subscription that grants immediate access to the premium features, you expressly acknowledge that you waive your 14-day right of withdrawal as soon as the service begins. Refund requests after that point are governed by the applicable app store's policy.

6. AI-generated content and theological disclaimer

Lucernia's contextual layers and Q&A feature are produced by a third-party large language model (OpenAI's GPT). The Publisher is a solo developer and does not hold a theology degree or any formal religious credentials.

AI-generated content:

The Publisher is not responsible for the content of any AI-generated response and makes no warranty as to its accuracy, completeness, or doctrinal correctness. Your reliance on AI-generated content is at your own risk.

7. Bible translations

Lucernia ships with public-domain Bible translations (such as the King James Version, World English Bible, Louis Segond 1910, Reina-Valera 1909, and the Clementine Vulgate). These translations are not proprietary to the Publisher.

8. User content

"User Content" means notes, journal entries, questions, and any other text you create in the App. You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant the Publisher a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, transmit, and process your User Content solely as necessary to operate the App and provide the features you have requested (for example, sending your question to the AI service to obtain a response).

You are solely responsible for your User Content. You agree not to submit content that is illegal, infringing, defamatory, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate. The Publisher reserves the right to suspend access in cases of abuse, including attempts to misuse the AI assistant to generate harmful content.

9. Intellectual property

The App, including its source code, design, graphics, logos, branding ("Lucernia"), copy, and the structure of AI prompts, is owned by the Publisher and protected by French and international intellectual property law. Nothing in these Terms grants you any ownership right in the App.

10. Third-party services

Lucernia relies on the following third-party providers, each governed by its own terms and privacy policy:

11. Availability and changes to the service

The Publisher does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or permanently available service. Maintenance, updates, third-party outages, regulatory changes, or business decisions may cause the App or some of its features to be temporarily or permanently unavailable.

The Publisher may update, modify, or discontinue all or any part of the App at any time, with or without notice, including the AI models used and the set of supported translations.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including without limitation warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of AI-generated content, or non-infringement. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer right granted to you by mandatory law.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the Publisher be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the App. The Publisher's total aggregate liability for any direct damages arising out of or related to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid to the Publisher (through the relevant app store) for the App during the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the liability, or, if you have not paid anything, fifty euros (€50).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, death, or personal injury, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including mandatory consumer protection law in France and the EU).

14. Termination

You may stop using Lucernia and uninstall the App at any time. The Publisher may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you breach these Terms or use the App in a manner that is abusive, fraudulent, or unlawful. Sections relating to intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law survive termination.

15. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of France, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute relating to these Terms or to the App shall be submitted to the competent courts of France, subject to mandatory consumer protection laws that may grant you the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.

Pursuant to Article L.612-1 of the French Consumer Code, in case of unresolved dispute, EU consumers may also access the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform.

16. Apple App Store specific terms

To the extent you use the App on an Apple device, the following additional terms apply:

17. Google Play specific terms

To the extent you use the App on a device running Android, the App is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the App.

18. Changes to these Terms

The Publisher may modify these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by another reasonable means. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the changes. If you disagree, you must stop using the App.
